In a study (2000) of 25,000 supervisors and managers, researcher Ferdinand Fournies asked the question "Why don't employees always do what they are supposed to? Sixteen reasons were identified, with an astonshing 99 percent of the managers giving "because they don't know what they are supposed to do" as their first or second reason.
